Embark on an adventure celebrating the Lusitano horse and immersing yourself in the rich equestrian heritage embraced in Portugal. The journey begins in Lisbon, Portugal’s capital. Then we travel to Monte Velho to refine your riding, sprinkled with trail rides into the Alentejo countryside surrounding this world-renowned equestrian center. The adventure continues in Serra the Grândola, as you explore the art of working equitation and ride along the azure Atlantic coast.
- Lisbon -
Treat yourself to a day or two of leisure in Lisbon as a prelude to your equestrian adventure. Enjoy the enchanting blend of historic charm and vibrant energy as you wander the cobbled streets of Alfama, visit the iconic Belém Tower and São Jorge Castle, stroll along the Tagus River, and savor the soulful sounds of Fado.
- Monte Velho -
Train with top instructors, mounted on incredible Lusitano horses, and take your riding to the next level. Expert instructors, state-of-the-art facilities, and stunning Alentejo landscape creates an idyllic setting for riders to immerse themselves in the art of dressage or set out on horseback to explore the scenery of the surrounding National Ecological Reserve.
- Atlantic Coast -
Explore the Serra de Grândola forest, one of the most untouched environments of Portugal, full of centuries-old cork trees, ride to Melides lagoon, and alongside crashing cobalt blue waves of the Atlantic Ocean. This final leg of our journey is a perfect opportunity to relax, unwind, and rejuvenate, experiencing Portuguese culture, cuisine, and hospitality to the fullest.
Horses
All the horses in both locations of this trip are Lusitanos, a breed known for their amazing character and athletic ability.
Riding
Intermediate-Advanced
Riders should be able to ride comfortably at all paces, and spend several hours in the saddle daily.
Accompanying non-riders are welcome!
Tack
Riders will ride English, and should be prepared for several hours in the saddle daily at all paces.
Accommodation
In Lisbon and on the Atlantic Coast, riders will be housed in local B&Bs. At Monte Velho, riders will be in premium rooms at Monte Velho, offering a contemporary atmosphere with a sophisticated design. The privileged location of these three rooms provide breathtaking views of the dam in the valley. Monte Velho also has a gym, jacuzzi, massage room, pool and sauna.
Dining
Despite the riding focus of this tour, the food will not disappoint! Enjoy local, traditional food and homecooked farm-to-table meals.
Itinerary

Arrive and get settled into Lisbon. Explore the city at your leisure and meet your fellow riders for an introductory dinner the evening of August 31.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be had as a group at the resort. Each rider will have the opportunity for one lesson and one trail ride per day (or you can change your riding preferences pending availability).

We will journey to the Atlantic Coast, where each day will consist of morning and afternoon rides through the countryside and on the beach.
