Join the Rand Hunt Club in Kyalami, Johannesburg’s most idyllic and equestrian suburb, for a fabulous weekend of foxhunting. Dotted with equestrian estates, stud farms, and show stables, this horse haven boasts the highest horses-per-capita of any region of the world, an equestrian paradise. Riders will have the opportunity to get to know their hunt mounts during either a scenic ride through the area or a riding lesson with a qualified instructor. The foxhunt itself will take place Sunday morning, followed by a traditional hunt breakfast. First, second, and third fields will offer different riding options, from galloping in first field to a slow ride in third. All jumps are optional, and riders of any level are welcome. Riders who wish to explore the city will have a free afternoon to do so, and the area offers easy access to culture, shopping, dining, and nightlife in Johannesburg, South Africa’s largest metropolis.
Foxhunt
Ride cross-country with the Rand Hunt Club in pursuit of enthusiastic hounds through the Kyalami countryside. As a drag hunt, no animals are actually hunted. The ride will be followed by a delicious Hunt Breakfast.
Johannesburg
Discover the rich and diverse culture of Johannesburg, South Africa’s largest city and economic capital. Learn about the tumultuous history at the Apartheid Museum, shop and dine at Monte Casino, and much more.
Horses
Horses are an immensely popular part of South African culture, especially in Kyalami. There are many thoroughbreds, warmbloods, and crosses, suitable for foxhunting.
Riding Level
While the hunt itself is for intermediate to advanced riders, beginners and non-riders have the option to car-follow, with great opportunities to watch the hunt in action.
Tack and Terrain
All riders will be riding English in formal hunt attire. Riders can choose which field to ride in based on how fast they want to go, and all jumps are optional.
Accommodation and Dining
Riders will stay in a B&B in Kyalami, with views out over the horses in their pastures and easy access to the hunt activities and festivities. Lunch will be served after the hunt, and dinners the night before and after will take place at local eateries.
