Enjoy safaris on horseback on a beautiful private reserve, where riders will enjoy the company of non-dangerous game, ranging from zebras, giraffe, antelope, kudu, ostriches, various species of buck, the occasional hippo, and a diverse assortment of birds. Riders can also choose from additional activities such as swimming with horses, camping, playing polocrosse, and cross-country jumping. This trip caters to all levels, and is a great option for families with children who ride!
Enjoy stays with flexible dates and duration - beginning any day of the year, stay a minimum of 2 nights or as long as you wish. Meet fellow equestrians from all over the world who share a love of horses, wildlife, trave, and adventure!
Horses
Horse breeds on safari range from Thoroughbreds to Boerperd (a South African breed) to Percheron crosses, along with a variety of mixes. Horses are selected based on their good temperament in the bush and stamina for long days covering distance during safaris. The horses have been exposed to all the wildlife seen on safari and are comfortable in this environment.
Riding Level
Riding options are available for riders of all levels, and rides will be catered to the level necessary. On-site lessons are available for non-riders. For longer rides, riders should be comfortable spending long hours in the saddle and at all paces.
Tack and Terrain
English tack (general purpose or dressage saddles) or trail saddles.
Terrain consists of open, grassy plains, hills, rocky outcrops, rivers, and mountains.
Accommodation
Enjoy a comfortable room in the lodge, a private rondavel, or small cabin. A highlight of your stay may very well be a night camping out at Camp Davidson in a canvas-sided tent, enjoying the sounds of the bush at night.
Cuisine
After a long day in the saddle, you are sure to work up an appetite! You will not be disappointed by the delectable cuisine on offer in the lodge. Enjoy hearty meals, scrumptious snacks, and warm hospitality. Dietary restrictions may be accommodated with advanced notice.
Itinerary
Morning rides will depart just after breakfast and last until lunchtime, covering many miles on safari. After lunch, take a break and relax, enjoy the pool or perhaps a massage, until tea time around 3pm. After tea time, go our for a shorter afternoon ride or play polocrosse, go cross-country jumping, take the horses swimming, or a variety of other options. Return in time for family-style dinner in the lodge.
Riders also have the option to spend a half or full day enjoying a jeep safari on a nearby Big 5 game reserve.
