This one-of-a-kind itinerary combines highlights from our Foxhunt in Joburg and Cape Town and the Winelands itineraries, with the option to extend your trip with a Big Five safari on horseback.
Start in Johannesburg, where you have the opportunity to join the Rand Hunt for their final hunt of the season. Then, travel to the Cape Town, the “Mother City.” No trip to South Africa would be complete without a visit to the Mother City and her majestic mountains, beautiful beaches, and vibrant vineyards. Take in sweeping views from atop Table Mountain, dine on exquisite seafood in the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, enjoy vibrant nightlife, and ride on white sand beaches.
The riding safari takes place on a beautiful private Big 5 game reserve outside of Johannesburg. Spend several days riding from the lodge to experience South African flora and fauna on horseback!
Horses
With a thriving equestrian culture dating back to the days of the British and the Dutch, South Africa has horses of every shape, size, color, breed, and discipline galore. The horses for this itinerary will vary by location, but in each, the horses are specifically bred and trained to do their job - whether it’s riding alongside wildlife on safari or long canters on the beach in Cape Town. Many horses have Thoroughbred, Arabian, or Boerperd (a South-African breed) breeding for agility, endurance, and temperment.
Riding
Intermediate-Advanced
Riders should be able to ride comfortably at all paces, and spend several hours in the saddle daily.
Accompanying non-riders are welcome!
Tack
Riders can choose between English or McLellan trail saddles, and should be prepared for several hours in the saddle daily at all paces. The hunt will be exclusively English riding.
