When is the best time to travel to Africa? Africa is a destination for all seasons - after all, it’s a big continent, offering a large variety of destinations, adventures, cultures, and climates, but certain seasons really showcase some of the incredible destination gems that make up this colorful, wonderful continent.
January - Summer Sunshine in South Africa
Summer in South Africa is warm, dry, and sunny with clear skies, and Cape Town is an unparalleled summer destination, especially for northerners fleeing the winter blues. Beach-goers can enjoy lively beaches in the city or drive along the Garden Route to find more secluded stretches of coastline. Thrill-seekers can choose from a myriad of outdoor adventures, from hiking Table Mountain to kayaking with seals in False Bay to diving with sharks. Wine connoisseurs sample a variety of vintages in the Cape Winelands, and nature-lovers can explore flora and fauna throughout the country, on foot or on safari.

March - Green Season Safari in Botswana
Few places on Earth come in as many shades of green as Botswana’s Okavango Delta. The end of the rainy season ushers in new life, as animals give birth in this lush, green wonderland. April - Smoke that Thunders at Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls is an experience that must be felt, as the immensity of the falls defies description. During the wet season, the Zambezi River is at its fullest, and the power of the fall is at its height. Feel the mist on your face as you explore Victoria National Park and take a sunset river cruise to witness the wildlife who call the river home.
May - Foxhunting in the Cape Winelands, South Africa
What could possibly be a better way to explore the vineyards of the Cape Winelands than on horseback in pursuit of an enthusiastic pack of hounds, on a foxhunt followed by a luncheon and wine tasting?
June - Beasts of the Bush in Kruger National Park, South Africa
Kruger National Park is the largest game and nature reserve in Africa, where during the dry season in South Africa, animals flock to watering holes in Kruger National Park, making sightings more frequent, as animals are easier to spot through more sparse vegetation than through thick, lush bush. Great weather makes for great safaris, too - sunny skies and mild, dry days, without a raindrop in sight.
July - Desert Dwelling in Namibia
The Namibian Desert can be brutally hot at the height of summer, so plan to travel during the winter instead - mild temperatures and clear skies make for beautiful days and even more beautiful starry nights. Explore the world’s oldest desert and tallest dunes, with ever-changing landscapes and colors. On horseback is a truly unique and special way to experience this magical landscape.

September - Whaling Season on the Garden Route, South Africa
Witness Southern Right whales flocking to the calm, shallow waters of the bay off Hermanus to give birth. These waters provide an ideal environment for whales and whale-watchers alike, who can observe the whales by beach or by boat, or even from some the area’s popular hiking trails, such as the Otter Trail or the Whale Trail, popular choices for backpackers during whale season.

The Maasai Mara in Kenya is the epitome of everything we imagine Africa to be - wild animals, roaming wide-open landscapes, magical sunsets and memorable moments on safari. Described as the Greatest Show on Earth, The Wildebeest Migration is a sight to behold, and doing so on horseback is like having front row seats.

November - Dare to Dangle by the Devil’s Pool at Victoria Falls
During the dry season, the Falls are easier to observe in their entirety without the thundering mist that accompanies the falls when they are in full-flow. The dry season also allows access to areas otherwise underwater, such as Livingstone Island and the Devil’s Pool. The ultimate infinity pool, it is a calm, natural pool situated at the very top of Victoria Falls, right at the edge where it overlooks the 100 meter drop of rushing water. Definitely a bucket list adventure!

December - Zebra Migration in Botswana
As the arid Makgadikgadi Salt Pans in Botswana turn lush and green at the start of the wet season, tens of thousands of zebras migrate across the Kalahari to greet the greenery, where they will remain until they make the return trip in March. Enormous herds traveling as one are truly a sight to behold.
